Marge Nokohoo - Rooke
– Tansi,
Edlanet'e,
Good Day my name is Marge Nokohoo
Rooke I was hired July 7th, 2008 as the MLTC Planning and Communications
Coordinator, Oil and Gas Secretariat.
I am a proud Cree/Dene woman
from Chipewyan Prairie First Nation Alberta (Janvier). I have a
variety of work and life experience that I bring to the Secretariat;
I have worked in Tourism, Banking, Aboriginal Education, Capacity
Development, Band Administration, and Health Administration and
have a long list of other titles. I recently moved back to Saskatchewan
from Janvier AB to be closer to my Daughter and grandchildren and
today make my home in the Battlefords.
I look forward too being part
Oil and Gas Secretariat; it's a rare opportunity to utilize the
valuable knowledge obtained in Alberta regarding the rapid expansion
of the Oil and gas sector in my home community. I look forward to
meeting all of MLTC First Nation Members and maybe even some family
as my Grandfather and Grandmother come from this area.
Ni-nanaskomon, marsi cho and
Thank You.
Marge Nokohoo Rooke
Training Coordinator
Craig
Derocher is responsible
for employment and training activities in the Oil and Gas Secretariat.
Upon completion of high school, Derocher went directly to work in
the city of Edmonton doing construction, sleeping on the cold cement
floors of his boss' house. It wasn’t too long before he realized
"there has to be something else I can do with my life".
That’s when he enrolled in the Power Engineering program offered
at SAIT in Calgary. His first job with certificate in hand was at
Cameco's Key Lake mine, but the call of Fort Mc Murray big dollars
caught his attention and he spent the next 8 years there as a heavy
equipment operator for an MLTC owned company.
In 1998 Derocher
took a one-year contract to be Assistant Manager of the Flying Dust
FN Concrete plant, then once again was on the move to another MLTC
owned business Norsask Forest Products where he was on the management
team in Purchasing.
Derocher’s
diverse background and connection to the resources industry gives
him a good understanding of the variety of jobs that are available
and their training and education requirements. His first task
at the MLTC Oil and Gas Secretariat is to visit all First Nation communities
and develop an inventory of people who are seeking employment together
with assessing their skills and prior employment. With a good
understanding of the backgrounds and interests of people, Derocher
then develops training partnerships with industry and government.
