| Community Profiles: Buffalo River Dene Nation |
|
|
The Buffalo River Dene Nation
is a vibrant community on the shores of Peter Pond Lake consisting of
approximately 1087 members. Located adjacent to the northern
Saskatchewan town of Dillon, this Dene Nation’s chief and five
councilors continue to focus on community development with
administration remaining one of the key sources of employment. The
culture is thriving through the traditional trapping and hunting
pursuits of both community elders and other members of Buffalo River.
With a broad land base and various potential ventures on the horizon,
Buffalo River has looked to expand its economic sector. The natural
resource assets of Buffalo River have greatly contributed to the
community’s economic base in the forms of hunting, fishing, trapping and
forestry.
