Meadow Lake Tribal Council - Over 25 Years Creating Health, Community Wealth and Good Governance.
Corporate Ventures: Contigo International
The Contigo International project is a very ambitious and innovative undertaking for the Meadow Lake Tribal Council. As an established non-governmental organization, Contigo is a pursuit to work with Aboriginal people in Central America. MLTC is working with 14 Miskito Indian communities in the attempt to replicate the Tribal Council governance structure in a manner culturally appropriate to their unique circumstances.
Using approximately $3 million in Canadian International Development funding, MLTC has worked with the Miskito communities in Nicaragua to develop community and commercial growth. The Miskito communities are structuring themselves similar to MLTC’s governance model so they will be better prepared to design, develop and deliver programming that works towards community and economic development growth.
With continued support from MLTC, the Contigo project will assist the on-going development of these Aboriginal communities in Central America. The project is recognized as a highlight of Aboriginal government cooperation and speaks volumes about the universality of Aboriginal community development.
  • Contigo International has potential to assist in the development of a forestry industry for the Miskito tribes of Nicaragua.
  • The government of Nicaragua has been very receptive to the project and welcomes MLTC’s partnership with the Miskito people.
