Meadow Lake Tribal Council - Over 25 Years Creating Health, Community Wealth and Good Governance.
Corporate Ventures:
Construction of the 32 500 square meter Oriented Strand Board plant being built approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Meadow Lake is complete. MLTC, partnered along with Tolko Industries, CIC OSB Products Inc., North West Communities Holdings Ltd., and the Meadow Lake OSB Mill Corp., holds an option to acquire up to 10% interest out of the business income over the next ten years. The first board was produced in August 2003 with full production currently underway.
One of the main benefits of this partnership is the gain in employment in the region not only from mill employees but also from the spin off opportunities that will be created. Training initiatives developed and coordinated by MLTC are underway to meet the job requirements needed by the mill. The plant employs approximately 130 people, including 9 students from the Process Operator Technician program coordinated by MLTC. The plant is expected to produce 600 million square feet of 3/8" OSB board by operating 24 hours per day year-round.
  • The Meadow Lake OSB plant is located approximately 30 kms southeast of Meadow Lake (near the Eagle’s Lake First Nation)
  • Oriented Strand Board is a material used frequently in housing construction.
  • Over a million man-hours were spent constructing the OSB plant.
