MLTC Northern Trucking Inc. continues its involvement in the trucking
sector, specifically the transport of forestry products. The company
focuses on asset replacement and capital improvements in the interests
of not having to replace all equipment at the same time. Due to the
uncertain softwood market and unresolved American export tax, the
company is retaining its old equipment for a time. The primary operation of Northern Trucking is to transport wood chips, a by-product of the NorSask sawmill, to the Weyerhaeuser pulp and paper plant in Prince Albert. Despite lowered production at NorSask, this company has a steady record of profit making and manages to stay debt-free. Various safety promotions work to supplement the quality of services offered by MLTC Northern Trucking. These pursuits include driver improvement courses, a first aid program and the continuing policy of random drug testing. The emphasis on safety and driver awareness is due to the fact that drivers in the company haul the heaviest, highest and widest loads allowed on Saskatchewan highways. Northern Trucking employs 14 people including a manager, a secretary, two mechanics and ten drivers. Almost all employees of Northern Trucking are Aboriginal. Drivers have shown great pride in their employment with less than a ten percent turnover in operators annually. The dedication shown by all employees has seen MLTC Northern Trucking Inc. enjoy steady success in the transportation sector.
