Meadow Lake Tribal Council - Over 25 Years Creating Health, Community Wealth and Good Governance.
Political Bodies: Tribal Leadership

Cree Vice-Chief, Oneil Gladue

Tribal Chief, Helen Ben

Dene Vice-Chief, Eric Sylvestre

The Meadow Lake Tribal Council is governed by the Chiefs of the Meadow Lake First Nations and by another level of governance referred to as the Tribal Leadership. The Tribal Leadership consists of three elected officials serving as the primary political advocates. The Tribal Chief and the two vice-chiefs have a specific decision-making authority for all Tribal Council matters delegated to them. All three of these tribal leaders are elected for their positions by the chiefs and councilors of the MLFNs. However, one vice-chief must be of Dene ancestry and the other vice chief must be of Cree ancestry. The elected Tribal Chief can be from either of these two backgrounds.
The primary role of the tribal chief and the two vice-chiefs is to meet with the Meadow Lake First Nations, tribal councils, other First Nations, various organizations and groups and bodies of government to advocate for our political goals. The tribal leadership is responsible for sustaining the political efforts of the MLFNs to expand the development of their communities. Regular meetings with the chiefs of the nine First Nations and other political leaders from around the region enhance communication and partnerships across the province.  The tribal leadership is also involved in developments at national and international levels.
