Meadow Lake Tribal Council - Over 25 Years Creating Health, Community Wealth and Good Governance.
Corporate Ventures: Western First Nations Hospitality Ltd. Partnership

In recent years a proposal package was presented to establish the Western First Nations Hospitality Limited Partnership (WFNHLP). The intent of this partnership was to purchase the Super 8 Motels in Prince Albert, Saskatoon and Meadow Lake. The majority owners are the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation (45%), the Prince Albert Grand Council (45%) and the Meadow Lake Tribal Council (10%).
In March of 2004 the deal became final and all three establishments became the property of the WFNHLP. The parties involved have since hired an operational manager to oversee the affairs of all three establishments.
The Super 8 Motel franchise is thriving and the purchase of three Saskatchewan locations will bring a significant return on investment in years to come. Another hope is to have First Nations people employed by the motel chain. MLTC is currently a 10% owner of the WFNHLP but has an option to increase their share to one-third over the next five years.
  • Super 8 Motels have approximately 99 locations across Canada.
